2011 Deaf Rochester Film Fest

The Deaf Rochester Film Fest website is now available. March 31^st – April 3^rd. Stacy Lawrence is the 2011 DRFF coordinator.

We will have a special guest this year: Emmanuelle Laborit, a French Deaf actress will be at the event. She is featured in a film that will be shown, Marianna Ucria at the Little Theater, Friday eve, April 1^st^..
There is a library guide related to Emmanuelle—you will find articles, books, media, book reading guide, etc

All invited to the events at The Wallace Center Library Friday April 1^st

The 68th Biennial Conference of the Empire State Association of the Deaf (NY) will be held on June 23-26, 2011 in Buffalo, New York. The theme is “Expanding 21st Century Deaf Advocacy, Education, and Technology.” The Conference will be hosted by the Buffalo Civic Association of the Deaf.

There will be a banquet and additional entertainment on Saturday, June 25th.

Registration, hotel details, and additional information about the Conference itself will posted soon!

Gifted RIT/NTID Student Gives Hope, Life, to Others

It’s not every college student who can say they’ve had a lifelong wish come true. But Lauren Aggen isn’t an ordinary college student.

She was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, leaving her left ventricle too small to pump blood through her body. Her prognosis for survival was bleak without a heart transplant.

When she was eight days old, a donor heart became available and she received her transplant. Of the eight children who received heart transplants that year in Chicago, four of them never went home and the other three have needed additional transplants.

“I’ve been very fortunate that my heart matched,” Aggen says.
